So here I go again, I don’t know why but here I am.

I think I stopped right before the start of my 8th semester. Intially it was coz I was just too tired when I finally got home after classes. Thanks to the notorious Dhaka traffic I usually came home anytime between 8.00pm to11.30pm!

Then I just got lazy.

And then I just stopeed giving a fuck.

It’s now winter break, the end of my 3rd year. After a week and a half of doing nothing ( my new year’s celebration included organizing my sorry wardrobe and defraggmenting my hard disk… yay for 2010!!) a familiar voice from deep within is calling for me to start bloggin ( if you can call it that) again.

Unfortunately that’s all its tellin me, I have no idea what the fuck to write about.

Scott Adams is my blogging idol and the creator of Dilbert comics (and in that order of relevance). He’s one of those writers whose every blog post is worth is reading (just like mine). Check out his site http://www.dilbert.com .

This is one of my favorite blog posts, it and works too, read on to find out what I mean:

Your Hair is Different

I forget where I read this tip, but I have used it many times with great success. It starts with the notion that most women change their hair all the time. You might not notice, but a woman is very aware of these small deviations in everything from highlights to length to fluffiness. I’m probably not using the official hairdresser terms, but you get the idea. It’s different every day, at least according to the woman who owns the hair. To me, hair is either brown or it isn’t, and you either have some or you don’t. The rest is beneath my radar.

So here’s the tip. When you see a woman who you haven’t seen for a few weeks, you can pay her this compliment, and it works every time. Say, “You’ve done something with your hair. I like it.”

The woman will feel flattered that you noticed anything beyond her hair’s very existence and its degree of brownness. She might even wonder if you can be her new gay friend. But she will confirm that something is indeed different and offer many details about how it got there. You can use that time to think about your hobbies.

So far, this idea isn’t mine. I just forget where I stole it from. But I did add a twist to it that I will claim credit for. You know how embarrassing it is when you introduce yourself to someone you think is a stranger at a gathering and the person says, “We met a few weeks ago.” This is a sure tipoff that you consider the person non-memorable. If the person is a woman, you can use the hair trick to save yourself. Simply look surprised that you have met before then pretend you are having a flash of recognition, and add “Of course! But your hair is different today. It threw me.”

Now you have flipped it from being the idiot who can’t remember a new person for a few weeks into a person who has such intense memory for detail that any deviation is the same as a mask.

Yes, I’ve used that method often. I can’t say it works every time, but it sure beats my old method of arguing that I must look like some other person and I just arrived in town an hour ago.

You’re welcome.

First Sorrow by Rabindranath Tagore

The path by the shadow of the forest is now covered with grass.

On that deserted road, someone called me from behind.

“Don’t you recognise me?”

I turned back to look at him.

“I remember you, but do not recall your name.”

He said, “I am the sorrow who came to you when you were twenty-five.”

The corner of his eyes revealed a spark of ray, just like moonlight on a lake.

I stood there, surprised.

“Back then, you appeared like a dark monsoon cloud. Now, you look like a golden idol. Have you lost the tears of that day?” I asked.

He didn’t say anything, just smiled. I realized everything was contained in that smile.

The clouds of the rainy day had learned to smile like bright sunny days of the summer.

I asked him, “Have you preserved my youth of twenty-five?”

“Yes, I made it my necklace. Not even a single petal of the spring’s garland had fallen.”

I said, “See, how I have shriveled with age. But my youth is still adorning your neck, as fresh as ever.”

He slowly put that necklace around my neck and said, “Do you remember, that day you had said, you don’t need consolation, you only want sorrow?”

I shrugged a little. “Yes, I did. But it has been so long; I had forgotten about it.”

“But the one within you hadn’t forgotten. Now, you must accept me,” he said.

I held his hand and said, “How wonderful you look!”

He smiled and said, “That which was once sorrow, is now peace.”

There’s a noise in my bathroom.

It kept me up most of the night.

It’s loud. I can hear it from all across the hallway.

It doesn’t stop.

I get a headache every time I go in.

It’s driving me nuts. After finishing my business, I almost ran out not realizing I didn’t have any pants on.

It’s a brain piercing, high pitched, fast, almost beeping noise.

After a couple of aspirins and much head scratching, I still don’t know where it’s coming from.

There’s nothing in the bathroom, I checked, many times.

So for I’ve been able to work out that it’s definitely some sort of living creature; it stops for a few seconds every time I slam the door or the window shutters really loud. Well sometimes it does. And it only happens at around sunset.

I’ve wasted an entire can of bug spray. No luck.

We live on the top floor and I checked the roof, nothing there either. Is it living inside our walls???

It does sound a bit like a cricket, but don’t those things live out in the open where there’s grass?

Maybe it’s an injured cricket that broke its wing and can’t fly away. Perhaps it lost its way after the radio waves from all the cell phones interfered with its natural navigation system and is now sending SOS signals in the form of that horrid noise to all its mates to come and help.

Maybe it’s the neighbors just trying to annoy me. They probably planted some sort of noise emitting device outside my window….but umm that would sort of require flying ability, something I’m sure the 60 something year old couple living next door do not possess.

Maybe they want to take me back to their planet to make me their ruler? Maybe they want to take over earth and want to use me in scientific experiments first, just to get understanding of our capabilities. Well the joke’s on them, as they’ll soon discover I’m the worst representation of human kind……muhahahah muhahaha

HELP!!!!

Shattered glass crumbled beneath my feet as I ascended the cramped stairway of the Star Tower building. It looked like a mini warzone, and in a way it was.

On the 10th of May, on what should have been a happy day full of friends catching up and recounting the events of the past semester break over cups of steamy tea, turned into a rampage by a mob of enraged students.

Their outrage was justified, their actions were not.

As I moved up the floors the feelings of nostalgia were subdued by the utter resentment towards the adrenalin fueled outburst of the crazed mob. Restless and clouded by anger they wrecked mayhem inside the main building of the North South University.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

It was meant to be a peaceful demonstration against the unjust and illegal attempt to raise tuition fees.

I say illegal after reading an e-mail by one of the senior faculties to his students; if what he says is accurate, it is against the law for a foundation (i.e. non profit) to raise the fees in order to pay for increased costs. Only the founders are liable to pay for any development costs and that from their own pockets.

Personally, the rise in fees isn’t what pissed me off, it’s the way that the Board of Governors decided to implement it, by putting up an easily missed hyperlink to the announcement page on a tiny sidebar on the rather pitiful university web page, and that only three days prior to course selection. No official announcement, no letter, nothing. Talk about not having any balls.

As the dust begins to settle, we enter into a new round of blame throwing, exaggeration, lawsuits, the works.

It wasn’t just the glass that was shattered that day, the reputation of the entire university was too.

By Dante on Ultimate Guitar Forums

01. Steven Tyler once left a show after just one song. The band had supposedly switched the setlist around and the Aerosmith vocalist was too wasted to realise that the concert had just begun.

02. Tony Iommi was a member of Jethro Tull for 10 minutes.

03. Despite releasing an album called “Speed Metal Symphony” and playing in Megadeth for a decade, Marty Friedman is not a heavy metal fan. Uh, what?

04. When James Hetfield first auditioned Lars Ulrich, he thought he was the worst drummer he’d ever heard.

05. The power chord was invented by Link Wray, whose signature track “Rumble” is featured in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction”.

06. In total, 4 keyboard-players of the Grateful Dead has died (and none by age).

07. Chuck Schuldiner, often called “the architect of death metal“, died a christian. Death’s upside-down cross was turned the right way on the last few albums.

08. Napalm Death’s debut album “Scum” suffers from an extreme line-up change. Only drummer Mick Harris plays on both sides of the album.

09. The largest concert ever was by Rod Stewart with 3,5 million people attending.

10. “Cinnamoon Girl” by Neil Young has a guitar solo which only consists of one note. The same goes for the intro riff in “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin.

11. Iron Maiden was signed with a record contract on a concert where bassist Steve Harris sang, because their vocalist Paul Di’Anno was absent.

12. A critic once suggested that Paul McCartney was dead and the person on the cover of “Abbey Road” is a phonie.
